Norton Torrontes 2008
Don’t let the tutti-frutti nose fool you…this Chilean white has depth and character. It’s light and open with kiwi and star fruit that glides to a banana peel finish. Truly a remarkable wine! Pair it with brick and softer white cheeses, Asian cuisine, chicken dishes without a cream sauce, and also salads with a fruit component (apples, berries, etc.).

Mollydooker Two Left Feet 2008
On a recent trip to visit friends in the North Woods of Wisconsin, I brought a bottle of the Mollydooker Two Left Feet. It’s one of the five wines in the Lefty series, which is available at Kafevino. This fantastic wine is produced by Sarah and Sparky Marquis of the famous Marquis-Phillips brand in Australia. Sarah and Sparky craft 11 wines in total for their own Mollydooker label. Mollydooker is Aussie slang for “left handed” by the way and it’s nicely detailed on the crafty label.
Because the blend is 68% Shiraz, 17% Merlot and 15% Cabernet it has a very deep color with tall thick legs that rise up the glass. On the nose I got chocolate, cherry cola, and coconut. On the palate it had a sweet, big juicy body that covered the whole palate and ended with a good and long spicy finish and nice texture.
Stop in soon to see how it feels to have two left feet, as everyone should try a Mollydooker at some point!
Cheers!

Hi, I’m Lee, owner of Kafevino and longtime wine lover. Hope to share some of my experiences with you so that you can enjoy some of the wines I discover out there.
Last Wednesday I was fortunate to try the 2008 Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Ridge Shiraz. This is one great find. The bouquet was spicy and took me back to my childhood with a scent of old fashioned brown licorice. Not the chocolate flavored but the one with molasses or some other secret ingredient! What a rush to smell something that only lives in memory! Then, the taste? WOW! Rich…lush…spices including a hint of black pepper. There was oak but not overwhelming. Lovely cherries and finally, at the end…this taste of the slightest amount of delicious black olives.
I loved every drop and can’t wait to lay some down to see what it is like as time makes it even better. This wine can be enjoyed today and for years to come. Members of the Thorn-Clarke family were in town recently and compared it to the 2003 and 2004 wines which everyone who enjoys fine Shiraz loved. This will be on our shelves soon but I recommend you get it while you can. See you at Kafevino!
